TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian badminton team participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics became a victim of theft on Monday afternoon local time. The team manager, Armand Darmadhi, confirmed that the team lost around EU 53,000 or Rp950 million in cash. Other valuable items such as credit cards, ID, driving license, and passport were also taken.
"The incident occurred in Madeleine (District). When our colleague stopped to purchase something at a store I was informed that we had a flat tire,” “When I checked, the tire was indeed flat.”
Armand then called the car rental office, which promised to bring a backup car or a mechanic to help change the tire. "Then I called them again to give them the detailed address, but they didn’t understand English so I said I would go and find someone who speaks French,” Armand said.
Since there were police officers in the area, Armand asked the police to explain their location. “When I returned to the car, the bag was gone,” said Armand.
The money belonged to several members of the badminton team, totaling 53 people, including athletes and officials. "This is a combined money from several people. We are still tallying it up since the team was scheduled to return home tomorrow. We planned to meet the team at 07:00 p.m. but the money was stolen on the way,” Armand said, who immediately reported the incident to the police.
