They carried flags and umbrellas and wore T-shirts adorned with images of Pope Francis. Banners featuring the face of the Argentine Pope were prominently displayed throughout the streets.
“Viva Il Papa (Long Live the Pope!)” the residents chanted along the streets.
Pope Francis will stay in Timor Leste until Wednesday, September 11, before continuing his journey to Singapore. On Monday, he will meet with President Ramos-Horta. The Bishop of Rome will also engage with local authorities and civil society groups during his visit.
