Indonesia's Global Competitiveness Surges, Jokowi Unveils the Triggers

26 July 2024 21:32 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has announced a significant leap in Indonesia's global competitiveness ranking, climbing from 34th in 2023 to 27th position in 2024. This improvement places Indonesia in the top three countries in Southeast Asia, following Singapore and Thailand.

He explained that economic growth, efficient governance, and the dynamism of the business sector have been key drivers of this advancement. “It is also [because of] the readiness of our infrastructure,” he said during the inauguration of the Batang Integrated Industrial Area in Central Java on Friday, July 26, 2024.

The President further highlighted the recent visit of a World Bank delegation to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, July 25, during which the international financial institution expressed admiration for the country's economic performance.

“The World Bank commends Indonesia's stable economic growth exceeding 5% and low inflation rate of 2.58%,” he said on his official Instagram account on Friday, July 26.

The former governor of Jakarta also said that the World Bank delegation lauded the government's programs related to agricultural infrastructure, stunting eradication, and the reduction of the extreme poverty rate from 6.2 percent to 0.8 percent.

“Looking ahead, the government will continue to promote various programs such as human resource development, support for small and medium enterprises, electricity infrastructure, and food and green energy resilience,” said Jokowi.
