Jokowi Welcomes World Bank Officials at Jakarta Palace

25 July 2024 22:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo met with World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, at the Presidential Palace on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 2024. The meeting focused on Indonesia's current economic conditions and the government's priority programs.

The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes starting at 16:15 Jakarta time. However, Bjerde did not provide information to media crews after the meeting.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied the President, said the World Bank projected global economic growth to slow to 2.6-2.7 percent this year and further decelerate to 4.8 percent in 2025.

“However, Indonesia's economic growth is not low. So it is expected to remain around 5 percent,” Airlangga said at the palace.

He also said that the World Bank commended Indonesia's efforts in poverty reduction, agricultural infrastructure development, and the overall push to become a developed country.

“Several President’s programs, such as the infrastructure of toll roads and seaports which pushes connectivity, as well as downstream are highly praised,” he added.

During her visit to Indonesia, Anna Bjerde also met with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on July 22, 2024. Both discussed streamlining internal procedures, pricing, and funding for global public goods, such as climate change.

“And the World Bank's efforts to enhance cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA),” Sri said in a written statement on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

In a social media post, Bjerde highlighted her meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan. “We discussed Indonesia’s growth opportunities through green infrastructure, diversified exports & sharing its development experience with others. “The World Bank looks forward to our continued strong partnership,” she said on Wednesday, July 24.
