TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia AirAsia ensured that all flight operations on Saturday, July 20, 2024, began to gradually normalize after experiencing disruptions due to global IT disruptions on Friday, July 19, 2024.

“It's going well along with the situation in the field which is gradually returning to normal, but is still in the 100 percent recovery stage,” said PT Indonesia AirAsia President Director Veranita Yosephine Sinaga in a written statement received by Tempo Saturday night.

According to Veranita, Indonesia AirAsia's entire IT system has gradually returned to normal, but is still in the recovery stage, so for now the check-in process is still being carried out manually at all airports. “Until the entire system is completely recovered and stabilized,” she said.

She added that this process took a little longer than expected, but Indonesia AirAsia remains committed to ensuring all passengers can fly comfortably and safely from departure to arrival at the destination airport.

“We can confirm that the situation has improved and we are gradually resuming normal operations. Thank you for the patience and understanding of all Indonesia AirAsia passengers,” she said.

Indonesia AirAsia has deployed a number of ground staff personnel as well as security officers to help address the situation and ensure the safety, security and flight comfort of passengers and flight crew.

“To avoid inconvenience at the departure airport, it is expected that all passengers can arrive at the airport at least three hours before the scheduled departure time to avoid long queues during the manual check-in process,” she said.

The global internet blackout on Friday July 19, 2024 has disrupted businesses and institutions in many countries. The incident caused airlines, government services, banks, supermarkets, telecommunications and media to experience chaos.

The cause of the outage is unclear, but it comes hours after Microsoft said it was addressing issues affecting access to Microsoft 365 apps and services.

The disruption was caused by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company whose software is used by industries around the world to protect against hackers and outside breaches.
