TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inspector General Krishna Murti, the head of the National Police's International Relations Division, stated that the arrest of Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac Province, Philippines, in Indonesia, is a direct result of collaborative efforts between the Indonesian and Philippine police forces.
Guo, who is wanted in her home country for alleged financial fraud and human trafficking, was apprehended in Tangerang on September 3, 2024. “The Philippine police requested the search of an individual named Alice Guo and after a three-week search, we managed to locate and detain her,” Krishna said at the Metro Jaya Police HQ in Jakarta on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
Prior to her arrest, Guo had traveled to several cities in Indonesia, including Batam, Jakarta, Bandung, and Tangerang.
On September 5, 2024, representatives from the Philippine government arrived at the Metro Jaya Police to take custody of Guo and repatriate her to the Philippines. Krishna emphasized that the arrest was a direct order from the Police Chief as a form of Indonesia's commitment to supporting its Philippine counterpart.
According to Krishna, the successful repatriation of Guo on Thursday night is a testament to the strong relationship between the two countries. He confirmed that Guo entered Indonesia through Batam in August 2024.
Guo's attorney, Gugum Ridho, previously asserted that his client had no legal issues in Indonesia, including immigration matters. He denied reports suggesting that Guo had entered the country illegally.
