Prabowo's Nephew Thomas Djiwandono to Be Named as New Deputy Finance Minister

TEMPO.CO, Semarang - The Finance Ministry announced the appointment of Thomas Djiwandono as Deputy Minister of Finance. The inauguration will be held later today at the State Palace in Central Jakarta. 

“The inauguration will take place at the palace this afternoon. We will then hold a press conference,” Deni Surjantoro, Head of the Communications and Information Services Bureau of the Finance Ministry, said on Thursday morning, July 18, 2024.

Previously, reports indicated that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo would soon inaugurate Thomas, familiarly called Tommy, as Deputy Minister to the current Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

Since 2014, Tommy has served as the General Treasurer of the Gerindra Party. He is also the nephew of President-elect Prabowo Subianto. Significantly, Tommy is part of the Synchronization Task Force Team focused on economic and financial matters. This team was established to facilitate a smooth transition between the administrations of President Jokowi and President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

On May 31, 2024, the team, including Tommy, had their first official meeting with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and was introduced to the public.

Earlier today, Gerindra Party Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad told Tempo via a short message about Tommy's appointment as Deputy Minister of Finance. He also mentioned the appointment of another Gerindra Party politician, Sudaryono, as Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana has also confirmed that President Jokowi would inaugurate three deputy ministers at the State Palace in Jakarta at 15:00 WIB on Thursday, July 18, 2024. However, Ari declined to disclose the names of the individuals being inaugurated.
