Indonesian Govt Allots Rp11 trillion for Extended Social Assistance Distribution

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe government will resume distributing food aid in the second semester of 2024 in the form of rice, poultry, and eggs, said the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati on Monday.

"The food aid of rice, poultry, and eggs will be extended for three months in August, October, and December,” she said during a meeting with the DPR Budget Agency on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Sri Mulyani said the government had allocated Rp11 trillion to extend the social assistance.

Sri Mulyani reported that the social assistance realization annually increased. The increase is influenced by the number of benefactors and unit costs of the Based on data presented by the State Treasurer, the realization of social assistance (Bansos) spending increases annually. This increase was mainly influenced by the increase in the number of recipients and unit costs for the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP) in 2024 as well as the food aid for the elderly and disabled.

Social assistance spending in the first half of 2024 recorded a hike, reaching Rp75.8 trillion compared to last year’s Rp73.6 trillion. The social assistance was distributed through four ministries and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). 

The Ministry of Social Affairs distributed social assistance amounted to Rp37.5 trillion in the form of the Family Hope Program (PKH) for 10 million beneficiary households and food cards for 18.7 million beneficiary households.

The Ministry of Health distributed Rp23.2 trillion worth of the Non-Contributory National Health Insurance Program for 96.8 million participants. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology distributed Ro13.2 trillion for PIP assistance for 8.9 million students and Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) for 769,400 college students.

Additionally, the Ministry of Religious Affairs also distributed social assistance worth Rp1.7 trillion for 1.5 million students and 99,860 college students. Meanwhile, BNPB distributed Rp0.2 trillion for emergency disaster response.
