TEMPO.CO, JakartaPertamina and Bakrie Group have agreed to develop shared hub infrastructure in Indonesia's future capital city (IKN), Nusantara. On Tuesday, March 26, Pertamina president director Nicke Widyawati signed a memorandum of understanding with Bakrie and Brothers CEO Anindya Bakrie in Jakarta.

"This cooperation scheme is very interesting as it is a synergy between an SEO and a private company, and world-class universities," she said. "It is beyond just constructing a physical structure, but it is also about building a foundation for Indonesia," Nicke said.

The signing of this Pertamina-Bakrie’s MoU is a follow-up to the signing of a Joint Statement of Cooperation. On November 15, 2023, the National Capital Authority (IKN) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability of Stanford University, California, United States.

Nicke said Indonesia has great potential to become a leader in the energy transition given its abundant resources. Based on research by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), Indonesia’s natural plant resources has the potential to attract US$3.5 trillion from global investors in the clean energy sector.

Nicke expressed Pertamina's commitment to driving sustainable growth in Indonesia. "The great potential and challenges in the energy transition need to be addressed through enhanced cooperation with all stakeholders," Nicke said.

She expressed her hope that this development will be a key driver for the development of a new capital that is sustainable and environmentally friendly. Pertamina is targeting a national emission reduction of 31.89 percent by 2030. If supported by international parties, the target will be raised to 43.20 percent.
