TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation has checked the feasibility of 20,173 buses ahead of the 2024 Eid homecoming period.
"Of that number, 13,752 fleets were allowed to operate, 3,661 fleets received a repair warning, and the rest were prohibited from operating because they did not meet road safety aspects," said Director General of Land Transportation Hendro Sugiatno in his statement, Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
Hendro revealed that the ministry through the Land Transportation Management Center has routinely carried out ramp checks for interprovince transportation (AKAP), intercity transportation (AKDP), cross-border transportation, and tourism transportation.
The ramp check activity ahead of Eid homecoming has been carried out since February 21 and will end on March 31, 2024. Hendro revealed that bus repair would be carried out before the homecoming period on April 3, 2024.
"We appeal to all bus companies to ensure their fleets meet the feasibility standard so that they can accommodate the needs for Eid [holiday] transport," Hendro said.
In addition, the ministry urges the public to check whether their bus is feasible before boarding for the Eid homecoming through the MitraDarat application.
"Citizens only need to enter the vehicle number in the Check Feasibility feature in the application, and then a statement will come out whether the bus is feasible," said Hendro.
According to Hendro, checking the feasibility of the bus is important to prevent accidents from happening during the 2024 Eid homecoming and return flow. “So we urge the general public to ensure their bus is roadworthy,” he concluded.
