TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A shallow 4-km tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 hit parts of Bandung and South Garut on Friday, February 2, 2024..
The head of the Geophysical Station at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency or BMKG Bandung, Teguh Rahayu, said that the earthquake was located on land.
"It was 33 kilometers southeast of the heart of Bandung Regency," Teguh said on Friday, February 2, 2024
The earthquake was felt on a II to III MMI scale in Pangelangan and Cibeureum, Bandung Regency, and Bungbulang in Garut Regency. The quake shook hanging paraphernalia and had similar vibrations to passing trucks.
So far, BMKG has not recorded any reports about damaged buildings due to the earthquake. "The quake was caused by the activity of local faults," Rahayu added.
According to BMKG's analysis, the epicenter of the quake was located at 7.32 Southern Latitude and 107.59 Longitude West. BMKG asked residents to remain calm and vigilant of any unconfirmed news.
