TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md has the right to resign from cabinet. When asked about the recommendation for ministers to resign from the cabinet, Jokowi said that if rules allow it, then it can be done.
"That is his right and I respect it," Jokowi said when met at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta on Wednesday, January 24. "Everything is based on rules. If the rule allows it, go ahead. If the rule says no, then it is not allowed. It's clear."
Mahfud, a vice presidential nominee, said that in time he will resign from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. Mahfud is running alongside PDIP politician Ganjar Pranowo, who recommended Mahfud to resign from cabinet. Mahfud said he made an agreement with the former Governor of Central Java when they decided to run in this year's election.
"When the right time comes, I will definitely submit my resignation amicably," Mahfud said in Semarang on Tuesday evening, January 23.
Mahfud said that other candidates were still using state facilities for their interests as election contestants. Seeing these conditions, Mahfud said that his plan to resign from the cabinet was just a matter of time.
