Puncak Records 40,000 Vehicles Passing By on Last Day of Christmas Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The last day of the Christmas holiday recorded around 20,000 vehicles exiting the Puncak route, Bogor Regency. The head of the traffic unit at the Bogor Resort police Police Commissioner Adjutant Rizky Guntama said that police have implemented traffic diversion to control the volume of vehicles.
"Current data showed that around 20,000 vehicles entered the [Puncak route] while 20,000 exited the route. The total of vehicles passing by Puncak is around 40,000," Rizky told Antara on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
The police also implemented traffic diversion, namely a one-way traffic policy heading to Jakarta on Tuesday, from the afternoon to dusk. "From 12:50 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time), we implemented traffic diversion of a one-way [traffic] from Puncak heading to Jakarta," he said.
On the last day of the Christmas holiday, Rizky explained, the number of vehicles entering Puncak declined from the previous day which reached 100,000 vehicles.
"Today was the peak of the holiday reverse flow, and tomorrow people are going back to work. But we will keep anticipating the [traffic] until the end of the year," he added.
The chief of Bogor Resort Police Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Wahyu Anggoro said his side will implement the odd-even traffic policy throughout the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
"We will implement the odd-even policy on Dec. 27-29 to control the number of vehicles entering the puncak route," he said.
Meanwhile, the police will implement car free night in Puncak on Dec. 31, 2023, from 06:00 p.m. WIB to Jan. 1, 2024, at 01:00 a.m. WIB to safeguard the New Year celebration this year.
"So we implore those wanting to spend their New Year's Eve in Puncak to arrive early," he said.
To safeguard the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the police deploy 875 personnel to avoid traffic congestion, especially around Puncak. The police also install security posts.
