Former Papua Governor Lukas Enembe Dies in Gatot Subroto Hospital

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lukas Enembe, died this morning at the Central Military Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto, Central Jakarta, today, December 26. His death was confirmed by the hospital's head, Lt. Gen. TNI Albertus Budi Sulistya.
"That is correct. [Lukas Enembe died on] 10:45 WIB," Albertus told Tempo through a messaging app on Tuesday.
According to his defense attorney Antonius Eko Nugroho, the body of the former Papua governor will be flown to Papua tomorrow.
Lukas Enembe was a corruption convict who was undergoing trial and being held in the KPK detention center. The KPK named Lukas Enembe as a suspect in the bribery and gratification case on September 14, 2022. He was arrested on January 10 in Jayapura.
Lukas Enembe was taken to Gatot Soebroto Hospital on July 16 because his health condition was declining. Since then, he had been in and out of the hospital while undergoing trial. Due to his health condition, his legal team proposed that Lukas Enember be made a city prisoner, but this was rejected by the Corruption Eradication Committee as well as the judge.
The KPK's spokesperson for Enforcement and Institutions, Ali Fikri, expressed his condolences over the death of the Democrat Party politician. Ali said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced since October 23 2023 that the detainee can receive intensive health care.
Since Lukas was declared to be suffering from various illnesses, Ali said, the examination process by the KPK and the court hearings were always carried out based on medical recommendations by the team of doctors.
