Jokowi to Reshuffle Cabinet This Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said he planned to conduct a cabinet reshuffle this week. The post to be replaced is the Agriculture Minister.

“It's still being prepared,” he said when met in Senayan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

The issue of the cabinet shake-up arose when two ministers in the cabinet were involved in corruption cases. They are Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo in the alleged kickbacks in the ministry and Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo in the alleged corruption of the 4G base transceiver station (BTS) tower project.

Jokowi refused to reveal the figure who will fill the post of the Agriculture Minister. When asked if the person will be from the Democratic Party, he replied with a smile.

Previously, news of the cabinet reshuffle emerged after the Democratic Party's High Council chairman, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY, visited the Bogor Palace to meet with President Jokowi after joining the Onward Indonesia Coalition, which endorses Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.

Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, denied in a press statement on Friday, October 13, that the meeting was to discuss the ministerial position for the party.

On Sunday, October 22, Prabowo and the coalition decided to appoint President Jokowi's eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Prabowo planned to register with the General Election Commission (KPU) on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
