TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) observed Koinu Cyclonce in the Philippines Sea. The cyclone moves northwest with a maximum wind speed of 80 knots and minimum air pressure of 955 millibars.

"The intensity of Koinu Cyclone is expected to increase for the next 24 hours and heads northwest," quoted from BMKG on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

The indirect consequence of this cyclone in Indonesia includes heavy rain with lightning and strong winds on the north side of North Kalimantan and North Maluku.

Additionally, BMKG warned of heavy rain with lightning today in Medan. Meanwhile, light rain is forecasted to drizzle over Ambon, Jayapura, Manokwari, and Mamuju.

BMKG also released a warning for the potential effects of heavy rain in Aceh, North Sumatra, North Kalimantan, West Papua, and Papua.

Three regions remain shrouded in smog today, namely Jambi, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, and Palembang.

The temperature today ranges from 19 to 36 degrees Celsius with the lowest temperature recorded in Bandung, and the highest in Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, and Palembang.

BMKG released an early warning for high waves potential in a number of Indonesian waters on October 3-4, 2023.

In the north of Indonesia, the wind pattern moves from northeast to southwest with a velocity ranging from 8 to 20 knots. Meanwhile, in the south of Indonesia, wind moves from the east to northeast with velocity ranges from 8 to 25 knots. The highest velocity was recorded in the waters in the south of Sumatra, North Natuna Sea, Java Sea, and Merauke waters.

This condition causes potential 2.5 to 4 meters of high waves in the west waters of Aceh to Mentawai Islands, Bengkulu waters to the west of Lampung, Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, west and south of Sunda Strait, south waters of Banten to East Java, Bali Strait-Lombok-south of Alas, south waters of Bali to Sumbawa and Indian Ocean south of Banten to NTB.
