TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wildfire-induced smog worsens at Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan today, as observed by Antara Kalsel. The smell of smoke was also detected due to the days-long fire across several regions at South Kalimantan.
Additionally, visibility was reduced to 300 meters at 06:30 WITA at Jl. A. Yani, the main entry and exit point of Banjarmasin city. A day prior, the visibility at Jl. A. Yani was at 500 meters to 1 kilometer.
Banjarmasin mayor Ibnu Sina asked the public to wear masks while doing outdoor activities to reduce the amount of inhaled unhealthy air.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimated that the smog shrouded eight regions in South Kalimantan.These regions are Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, Barabai, Kandangan, Marabahan, Martapura, Pelaihari, and Rantau.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy weather is forecasted across 13 regencies and cities in South Kalimantan from the afternoon all the way to the evening.
BMKG also warns the public to remain vigilant of wildfires in South Kalimantan.
