TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian lifter Eko Yuli Irawan failed to bring home any medals at this year's Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, following his failure to execute a clean and jerk in the men's 67kg final on Sunday.

The Olympic silver medalist was only able to lift 145kg on the second attempt of the snatch but failed to complete the 142 kg weight on the first chance.

In the last attempt at the snatch, Irawan succeeded in performing his lift of 148kg, but it was declared a “no lift” by the judges.

While Irawan failed in the third attempt, Chinese lifter Chen Lijun, the Tokyo Olympics champion, set an Asian Games record in the snatch category with a lift of 150kg.

After a break, the Indonesian lifter missed all three attempts in the clean and jerk category.

Irawan had never lost any medals in the previous Asian Games. The 34-year-old lifter won gold at the Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang in 2018 and bronze at Incheon 2014 and Guangzhou 2010, all in the men’s 62-kg class.

The Chinese Chen Lijun won gold in the men’s 67-kg category. He lifted 150kg in the snatch and 180kg in the clean and jerk for a combined 330kg.

Ri Wonju of North Korea took silver after posing a total lift of 321 kg—141 kg in snatch and 180kg in clean and jerk.

South Korean Lee Sangyeon secured bronze with a total lift of 317kg, with 137kg in the snatch and 180kg in the clean and jerk.
