KAI Responds to Issue of Employee Allegedly Involved in ISIS

15 August 2023 10:01 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaState-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has spoken up about the alleged involvement of one of its employees in a terrorism case. The National Police's anti-terror squad Densus 88 arrested a terrorist suspect allegedly being affiliated with ISIS terrorist group in North Bekasi, Bekasi City, West Java on Monday, August 14, 2023.

Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji, EVP of PT KAI's Corporate Secretary, said the company respects the ongoing legal process. The company would also support various efforts to eradicate terrorist practices.

“We are ready to cooperate with the authorities in this matter,” Agus said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

According to Agus, the company does not tolerate actions that violate the law, especially in cases of terrorism. PT KAI's management, he added, would take strict action against employees if they were found to be involved in terrorism cases.

The state-owned enterprise is also committed to eradicating terrorism, “by continuing to remind all employees of integrity and nationalism, and by strengthening supervision," Agus said.

KAI and the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) have also been collaborating since September 24, 2021, on the synergy to prevent radical ideologies. As part of this cooperation, dialogues on national insights and anti-radicalism have been held in various cities.

Densus 88 spokesperson Sr. Comr. Aswin Siregar confirmed the arrest of a suspected terrorist, DE, at his home in Bulak Sentul, Bekasi City, on Monday, August 14. “DE is an ISIS supporter who actively posts propaganda content on social media by motivating people to go on jihad and calling on them to unite in the goal of jihad through Facebook,” Ramadhan said.

Editor's Note: Jihad is not a term for terrorism. Literal meaning of the word is "to struggle" or "putting effort". It means so much more, it does not only mean 'waging a holy war', and the term is applicable in daily life routines such as like working to earn wage for the family, being a teacher and teaching students, and being a doctor and caring for a patient's health.
