TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The victims of Miss Universe Indonesia's sexual harassment case have met with the Minister of Women Empowerment and Children Protection (PPPA), I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati Puspayoga, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. The victims' attorney, Mellisa Anggraini said that the minister supported the victims.

During the meeting, said Mellisa, Minister Bintang appreciated the victim's guts to report the harassment they experienced, namely the coercion to be photographed without clothes while conducting a body check.

"What the victims are doing is extraordinary, worthy of appreciation, since this will break the chain of future cases like this," said Mellisa, quoting the minister on Thursday, August 10, 2023, as quoted by Antara.

The minister also promised to deliver support and aid to the victims. "She will facilitate us with criminal experts if needed," Mellisa said.

In a written statement released on Wednesday evening, August 9, 2023, Minister Bintang said she will ensure the victims receive the supports they needed.

"I have communicated this matter with the police chief, and I told him to safeguard the case until the end," she said in the statement.

Minister Bintang said she regrets the alleged sexual harassment disguised as a body check since it violated human rights. "The victims participated in Miss Universe Indonesia to self-actualize, compete for their skills and personality to hopefully be the nation's representative," she said.
