TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo reportedly held a limited meeting with several ministers in the Presidential Palace on Monday, July 31, 2023. The meeting was intended to formulate comprehensive measures to boost Indonesia's electric vehicles investment.
The information was confirmed by Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia in an official statement. He explained that the government has decided on the matter of accelerating the development of electric car investment. "We conducted a limited meeting to discuss the implementation of the electric car ecosystem. Thus, we formulate several comprehensive measures in regulation and incentive levels including Value Added Tax," he said, as reported by Antara.
Further, Bahlil informed Hyundai's electric car investment in Indonesia has proceeded. Two other electric car companies from China also plan to invest in Indonesia, namely BYD and Wuling. "We have discussed the plan to ensure Indonesia can compete with other countries such as Thailand and Malaysia. Because we could fall behind other countries if we delay the discussion," he explained.
In addition to the electric car investment issue, the meeting also discussed electric motorcycle incentives. As we know, the incentives regulation does not affect the public interest in electric motorcycles.
The minister said that the realization of electric motorcycle development is still falling behind the target. "After examining the procedures, it will be simplified to ease the public's access to electric motorcycles," Bahlil concluded.
