1 August 2023 06:16 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four students from Indonesia won four medals at the 55th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Zurich, Switzerland which was held from July 16 to 25. In total, the Indonesian students took home two silvers and two bronze medals from the competition.

Two silver medals were won by Kevin Lius Bong from SMAK Petra 1 Surabaya and Abraham Abednego Lincoln from SMAS 1 Kristen BPK PENABUR Jakarta. Then, two bronze medals were presented by two students, namely Muhammad Ezra Sarliviano from MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong, and Muhammad Adyan Dafi from Cahaya Rancamaya High School, Bogor.

ChO is an international chemistry competition for high school students from around the world. This year, Indonesian students competed with 348 participants from 89 countries in two parts, practical (experimental) competition and theoretical competition.

The Education, Culture, Research and Technology Minister's expert staff for talent management, Tatang Muttaqin, expressed his pride of the students' hard work and success. He said that the ministry has a Talent Management Information System (SIMT), in which the four students' achievements will be recorded.

Hendarman, acting chief of the Education Ministry's National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), said that the four medalists have been accepted at universities. Two of them received the Advanced Indonesia Scholarship (BIM); Muhammad Ezra Sarliviano at the University of Toronto majoring in Materials Science, and Abraham Abednego Lincoln at Nanyang Technological University majoring in Materials Engineering.

Meanwhile, Kevin Luis Bong received an ASEAN Scholarship from the Singapore Government to enroll at the National University of Singapore majoring in Chemical Engineering, and Muhammad Adyan Dafi was accepted at the University of Indonesia's Chemical Engineering Department through the Achievement Path Selection (SJP) program.

Kevin said he was very grateful to get a silver medal in the IChO event. He stated his commitment to serve Indonesia after completing his studies abroad.
