Jokowi Gives Ganjar Pranowo Advice on Presidential Candidacy

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo gave Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo advice about running the 2024 presidential election during a national meeting of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) today, June 6, 2023.

The ruling party endorsed Ganjar as its candidate in the upcoming presidential election. The President said that a leader must have courage.

“If a future leader is like Ganjar Pranowo, the most important thing [to have] is courage. Courage is number one,” he said in a press conference, Tuesday, June 6. 

He said the leadership traits exist in Ganjar. “Pak Ganjar is brave and has courage,” he added.

The President was scheduled to visit the PDIP meeting to deliver a special speech. The party’s secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto said the special speech is related to the government policies in eradicating poverty.

Hasto also said that the state head gave directions regarding the 2024 elections. “Given that President Joko Widodo is a PDIP cadre,” he said.

Apart from Jokowi, PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri delivered her political speech in front of all participants in the meeting. Ganjar Pranowo also gave his remarks at the event.
