TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) representative Said Abdullah expressed his optimism about the Party’s presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo. Abdullah said that Ganjar will experience a spike in electability after receiving an endorsement from President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's supporters.
The statement was made after Ganjar met with Jokowi supporters in Senayan, Central Jakarta, which was followed by the President himself calling his followers to support a presidential candidate who bears the traits affiliated with Ganjar.
“This form of support will surely add electoral strength for Ganjar Pranowo who experienced a significant improvement in the latest survey," Abdullah wrote in his statement on Monday, May 15, 2023.
Abdullah said that based on the survey he conducted by pollster SMRC, the Central Java governor's electability is leading compared to other presidential candidates. Ganjar scored 39.2 percent electability followed by Prabowo Subianto (32.1 percent) and Anies Baswedan (19.7 percent).
Ganjar's candidacy, he claims, has helped improve the electability of PDIP and consistently helped the political party lead a number of survey institutions.
"PDIP appreciates [the support] shown by Jokowi's volunteers who consider Ganjar Pranowo, who was recommended by President Jokowi as a future presidential candidate, and someone who is worthy to continue the legacy of Jokowi’s administration," Abdullah said.
The top three candidates of the upcoming 2024 presidential election, apart from Ganjar Pranowo, are Gerindra chairperson Prabowo Subianto (current Defense Minister) and Golkar chairperson Airlangga Hartarto (current Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister).
