TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, has said that the association will explore cooperation with the German Football Association (DFB).

"We are attempting to set up a meeting with the German League, with the German FA (football association). Same as our collaboration with Japan, which was officiated prior, they will help Indonesian referees to become transparent and professional," he informed here on Friday.

He made the statement to the media after the inauguration of the board members and executive committee of the PSSI for the 2023–2027 period.

The new PSSI management was officiated by chairperson of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Marciano Norman.

Earlier on May 22, PSSI announced its collaboration with the Japan Football Association (JFA), especially for the development of the Indonesian women's national team.

Regarding the cooperation with Germany, the PSSI head noted that currently, his party is reviewing the track record of several technical directors from the winner of the 2014 World Cup.

"For Germany, we are considering the CV (curriculum vitae) of technical director (candidates). We will make everything (including the director recruitment) fair and transparent because we want to build professionalism and transparency (in Indonesian football)," he said.

Meanwhile, executive committee (exco) of PSSI, Arya Sinulingga, said that the cooperation between Indonesia and Germany would focus on the development of the men's national team, especially the team’s technical director.

He informed that his party would also make a concept plan to improve soccer competition in Indonesia and present it to the DFB, thus the German football association could decide whether they agreed with the cooperation plan or not.

Furthermore, the PSSI exco dismissed information stating that a Japanese technical director would handle the Indonesian men's national team.

However, he informed that a technical director from Japan would be recruited for the women's national team.

"(A technical director from) Japan (will be recruited) for the women's national team, while (another will be brought from) Germany for the men’s team," he emphasized.
