TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home-grown outdoor equipment brand Eiger (PT Eigerindo Multi Produk Industri) on Monday reassured people that products the company launches are 81 percent produced domestically with the minority (19 percent) being made overseas by partnering factories in Bangladesh, Taiwan, Hongkong, China, and Vietnam.
This comes after the brand was hit by an online brouhaha where online users questioned one of its products that had a tag suggesting it was made in China.
“Our priority remains domestic. Our products that are made overseas are only for those that need the technology or raw material that is not available here, even then the designs and quality control is still done by us,” said Eiger PR executive Shulhan Syamsur Rijal in a visit to Tempo headquarters on May 8.
Rijal made sure that the Eiger products are genuine despite being tagged with a label produced in China. “Similar to global brand companies, their production is usually done in many countries with various considerations, just like Eiger, but we still prioritize domestic production," he said.
According to him, the stages for the Eiger product to eventually be produced in China were originally due to difficulties in establishing domestic partners which led the company to look for overseas partners with the needed technology and materials.
He also mentioned the technological transfer aspect as the main driving force for establishing partnerships with factories around the globe. “There is a technological transfer there too,” said Rijal.
