TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno on Monday revealed that it is aiming to approach England’s football club Manchester United (MU) in exploring possibilities to establish a partnership with Indonesia’s tourism jargon ‘Wonderful Indonesia.’ Despite remaining unclear about the details of the type of partnership, he insists that he remains positive that this plan can be realized.
"We were just involved in an international event in football when Mesut Ozil (visited Indonesia) and we saw the impact on awareness and recognition of Indonesian tourist destinations," Sandiaga said in his weekly press brief aired on Youtube on May 8th.
“It is unclear the type of partnership that will be offered, however, we have informed the government’s eagerness to collaborate the Wonderful Indonesia brand with MU,” he added.
As the plan eventually progresses, said Sandiaga, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry will invite business actors and companies interested in collaborating with the hope of boosting the number of tourist visits. The Ministry has set the goal of attracting 8.5 million tourists in 2023.
Sandiaga admitted that he did not have too high expectations because he still needed strength to get a well-known brand as a potential branding partner. But on the other hand, he remains optimistic because the Ministry has experience in carrying out co-branding with major companies in the national and regional areas.
"Manchester United fans, I ask for your prayers for the Wonderful Indonesia brand to collaborate with Manchester United soon," said Sandiaga Uno.
