Solo Hosts Underwater Robot Competition

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Solo will be the host of the 4th ASEAN MATE ROV underwater robot competition. The competition wll be held in Tirtomoyo pool in Manahan, Solo, on May 6 and May 7, 2023. The competition will be followed by a number of robotics team from schools and colleges across Indonesia and Singapore.
The Person-in Charge for the ASEAN MATE ROV competition Dhadhang SBW explained that the MATER ROV is an annual competition under the Marine Advance Technology Education (MATE) non-profit organization. The competition will have three classes: scout (elementary schools level); ranger (elementary school to senior high school level); and explorer (college students)
"For this year the participants are several robotics teams from schools and colleges in Indonesia and Singapore," Dhadhang said to Tempo on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Dhadhang said that in the past three years, the MATE ROV was always held in Surabaya, and this would be the first time the event will be held outside Surabaya.
"This is the first time the underwater robot competition to be held outside of Surabaya. We hoped that this can attract the interest of students in Solo and its surrounding region to study robotics engineering, especially underwater robots," Dhadhang said.
The international level competition will held on June 22 to June 24, 2023, and will be followed by champions of the selection phase in 43 regions.
