TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police (Polri) predicted that the peak of Eid al-Fitr homecoming flow will occur on April 19-21, 2023.

Therefore, the police are preparing strategies to maintain the flow of travelers on main roads, including through a one-way system, the head of Polri's Public Relations Division, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, conveyed in a press statement in Jakarta, Sunday.

"The police will implement a one-way system on April 18 starting from KM 72 to KM 414 of the Trans Java Toll Road since the peak of the homecoming flow will occur on D-2 and D-1 of Eid that falls on April 21," Nugroho said.

The police, along with Transportation Ministry and toll road managers had conducted surveys regarding the traffic condition for the 2023 Eid homecoming and the return flows.

The police with related stakeholders then decided to divide the return flows into two periods: the first period on April 24-25 and the second period on April 29 to May 1.

The two-star general said the police had determined several crucial points that had the potential to cause problems during the homecoming, including the Trans Java toll road and Central Java toll road where the Cipali Toll Road is included as one of the crucial points for homecomers.

"Meanwhile, from last year's experience, there was a traffic density at Merak Port," he added.

Apart from the Java and Sumatra toll roads, another crucial point is the arterial roads in Java. Potential congestion is also predicted to occur on the main road used by motorcycles and the alternative route for cars. This can cause accidents and disrupt public order and security, Nugroho remarked.

While for the tourist sites, he also predicted a surge in visitors number during the Eid holiday.

"If congestion occurs, we will unravel the congestion by conducting traffic engineering namely contraflow, oneway, and also odd-even vehicles plate," he said.

He added that in order to manage the homecoming flow, the National Police are conducting the 2023 Ketupat Operation by deploying 148,211 personnel.

The personnel will come from the National Police Headquarters with 1,240 personnel, the Regional Police with 91,153 personnel, and related agencies with 55,818 personnel, he disclosed.
