TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 148,211 personnel from the police, military, ministries/agencies, and local governments will be jointly deployed to carry out the 2023 Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri Ketupat Operation, according to the National Police.

The operation is aimed at securing the homecoming and return activities of Indonesian citizens during Eid al-Fitr, which is estimated to fall on April 22, 2023.

In a statement received on Saturday (April 1), head of the public relations division of the National Police, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, said that the personnel comprise 1,240 personnel from the National Police Headquarters, 91,153 regional police (Polda) personnel, and 55,818 personnel from related agencies.

“We are implementing it together, thus this operation can run safely, smoothly, and orderly, according to the tagline (of the operation), ‘Safe and Memorable Homecoming,’” he said.

According to the government’s projection, around 123.8 million people will undertake homecoming travel this year compared to about 85.5 million people in 2022, he said.

The potential increase in the number of travelers in 2023 is possibly driven by the revocation of community activity restrictions (PPKM), the decline in the number of COVID-19 cases, the implementation of joint leave, as well as positive public perception and improving economic conditions, he added.

"Thank God, our economy has been able to revive and the community can visit their relatives in their hometown," he remarked.

He noted that the police will set up a number of security and service posts to support the implementation of the operation.

Along the Trans Java Toll Road, posts will be prepared by Banten Polda (16 security posts and 4 service posts), Greater Jakarta Polda (76 security posts and 16 service posts), and West Java Polda (227 security posts and 53 service posts).

Posts will also be set up by Central Java Polda (167 security posts and 55 service posts), Yogyakarta Polda (16 security posts and 6 service posts), as well as East Java Polda (160 security posts and 57 service posts).

Furthermore, the security and service posts will also be established along the Trans Sumatra Toll Road, which stretches from Aceh to Lampung province.

"There will be 247 security posts and 134 service posts on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road," Nugroho said.

He appealed to prospective travelers to maintain their health and the condition of their vehicles so that they can arrive safely at their destinations.
