TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo claimed the United States imitated the country’s campaign on the purchase of domestic products as it has just imposed a policy of domestic component level requirements (TKDN) starting January 2023, while Indonesia had been enacting it since one year ago.
“We are now trendsetters, not followers,” he said in his remarks at the inauguration of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association's Central Management Board (BPP HIPMI) at Kempinski Hotel Jakarta, on Monday, February 20, 2023.
He also mentioned that the domestic spending by ministries and institutions last year reached Rp762 trillion, which he considered as the government's success in using the State Budget (APBN) and Regional Budget (APBD) to boost domestic businesses.
The state head has repeatedly reminded staffers and business actors to encourage spending and develop local products. Earlier, he asked central and regional government’s spending be focused on the use of domestic goods. This was revealed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.
During a cabinet meeting held at the State Palace, on Monday, January 16, Airlangga recalled Jokowi’s statement that cooperation between local and central government to buy domestic products was vital as a short-term effort to prevent potential layoffs.
