TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Class I Immigration Office has reactivated the auto-gate, an automated gate for Indonesian citizens and certain foreigners to undergo check-in and out electronically, on trial at the Airport’s Terminal 3.
“The trial has been carried out since January 3, 2023, until now,” said the Immigration Office spokesman Habiburrahman on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
The Immigration Office recorded 44,536 people passed through the auto-gate since it was tested on January 3 until 18, 2023. In detail, 18,501 people went through the Departure auto-gate and 26,035 people went through the Arrival auto-gate.
Habiburahman mentioned that in the process, the Immigration Office worked with several stakeholders to optimize the system's performance.
The auto-gate was first operated in 2018. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was deactivated in 2020 to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. “Because [passengers] are required to open their mask and get their fingerprints checked.”
Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Class I Immigration Office Muhammad Tito Andrianto said that the activation of the auto-gate was in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 44 of 2015 on the procedures for check-in and out of Indonesian territory at the immigration checkpoints.
“Autogate is now only for Indonesian passport holders. At first, passengers need to scan their passports. If they have been verified, they can continue to carry out biometric verification such as fingerprints and face recognition, and then they can pass [the immigration check],” Tito explained.
