TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts middle-to-high intensity rainfall to shower over the Greater Jakarta area throughout the month until February.
“There are currently a number of atmospheric dynamic factors that can spark an increase in rainfall over the Greater Jakarta area for the following week,” said BMKG deputy of meteorology Guswanto on Thursday, January 19.
One of the causes for this weather, he said, is the active Kelvin wave across Indonesia’s southern equator region. The Madden-Jullian Oscillation is also predicted to become active again around the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra in the late January period.
He also said signs of convergence zones are starting to form over the western part of Java Island, which can spark the growth of rain clouds.
Guswanto warned that mid-high intensity rainfall will likely happen from January 19 - January 25 over the Greater Jakarta area.
