TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) reported that Soekarno-Hatta Airport was declared as the busiest airport among ASEAN countries and the ninth busiest airport in the world during Christmas and New Year holidays or Nataru.
AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the highest flight traffic at airports under AP II management, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, was recorded in December 2022.
“The highest in 2022. This was driven by the improving conditions of the pandemic and the peak season of Christmas and new year holidays,” said Awaluddin in Jakarta on Monday, January 9, 2023.
He cited a report by London-based air travel intelligence company OAG that the international airport was ranked 1st on the list of the busiest airports in ASEAN with the flight seat capacity reaching 2.15 million.
Travel data provider Flightsfrom.com also placed the airport as the 9th busiest airport in the world with 579 scheduled flight departures every day.
“We are grateful that thanks to the support of all stakeholders, Soekarno-Hatta Airport can manage the high demand for air traffic well,” Awaluddin said.
Throughout January-December 2022, the passenger number amounted to 40.54 million, an increase of around 57 percent compared to 2021.
In 2022, the five busiest domestic routes are from and to Denpasar (4.32 million passengers), Deli Serdang (3.28 million passengers), Surabaya (2.62 million passengers), Makassar (2.55 million passengers), and Pontianak (1.62 million passengers).
Meanwhile, the five busiest international routes at Soekarno-Hatta Airport were to and from Singapore (1.68 million passengers), Jeddah (945,943 passengers), Kuala Lumpur (863,772 passengers), Doha (446,177 passengers), and Medina (441,445 passengers).
