Jakarta Police Detain 3 Thieves Acting as Fake Cops

6 January 2023 14:58 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tambora Police Chief Putra Pratama said the Jakarta Police has apprehended three men who committed crimes disguising themselves as police personnel in the West and Central Jakarta areas.

"Based on the interrogation, the perpetrators had carried out their actions at several locations seven times, namely in Tambora, Tamansari, and the Gambir District area, Central Jakarta," said Putra in his statement, Thursday, January 5.

The investigation against the ‘wannabe’ police was launched after three victims filed reports in the aforementioned areas. All suspects were captured in Jakarta’s satellite city of Bogor on January 3 and 4.

According to police, the suspects would act as police officers and stop vehicles. Once the victims believe their disguise, they would then steal the victim’s vehicles and other valuables.

The suspects are identified as FF (22 years old male), DDW (22 years old male), DKP (20 years old male), HE (34 years old male), and MAN (24 years old male). Police confiscated a fake police criminal investigation unit (Bareksrim) uniform and a fake badge.
