TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Komarudin, said that the police have not yet discovered the motive for the child kidnapping of a girl with the alias MA at Jalan Gunung Sahari 7A. Furthermore, it is also unknown whether the perpetrator had ever targeted other victims before this current kidnapping.
"We have not uncovered anything yet," he said at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
During interrogation by investigators from the Central Jakarta Police, the perpetrator refused to reveal the real reason for abducting MA.
Iwan Sumarno a.k.a. Yudi a.k.a. Herman a.k.a. Jacky, who kidnapped the victim, is considered to remain giving clichéd answers.
The 42-year-old man only revealed his emotional relationship with the victim. "Until this morning it was still complex, he's not yet fully open, until we asked about the motive, he still answered it with cliched answers," said Komarudin.
Iwan is a former convict in an abuse case toward a seven-year-old child. The North Jakarta District Court sentenced him to seven years in prison and a fine of Rp 60 million, a subsidiary of six months in jail.
His profession is known to be a scavenger. Several witnesses, said Komarudin, expressed that Iwan had a temperamental personality.
This attitude is very different toward the victim's family and MA, who is a six-year-old girl. Before the victim was kidnapped, Iwan often visited MA's family.
After buying her a fried chicken, he finally took MA in a blue bajaj (auto-rickshaw). Their traces disappeared after being around Jakarta Kota Train Station.
The victim and perpetrator of the kidnapping were found last night around 21:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) in the South Tangerang area. MA was in Iwan's scavenging cart, often used to collect used goods.
Police Specify the Child Kidnapper as Suspect
Police identify Iwan Sumarno, 42 years old, as a suspect in the child kidnapping case at Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta.
"He is a suspect," said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Chief Commissioner Endra Zulpan when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, quoted from Antara.
Zulpan explained that the determination of Sumarno as the suspect was based on several pieces of evidence from the investigator's pockets, including the results of the examination of the victim with the initials MA, 6 years old.
"The results of the examination will strengthen the investigation to determine the perpetrator as a suspect for violating the Criminal Code and also Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection," he said.
