TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Employers Association or Apindo chairman Hariyadi Sukamdani positively responded to President Joko Widodo or Jokowi’s hint that the public mobility restrictions policy or PPKM in the wake of COVID-19 will be lifted. He opined that this is certainly good news.
“If there will be an announcement [that the COVID-19 status] becomes endemic or no longer pandemic, it will be indeed very good because our economy had dropped to minus 5 percent when public activity was stopped due to PPKM,” said Hariyadi in Apindo HQ, South Jakarta, Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
So, he assessed that the end of PPKM reflects the government's confirmation of a normal situation. “So this will hopefully be responded with even higher economic activity,” Hariyadi said.
Earlier today, the President signaled that the COVID-19 curbs policy will be revoked following the slowing down of COVID-19 daily cases. “Perhaps at the end of the year, we can likely stop PSBB (mass-scale social restrictions) and PPKM,” he said at the 2022 Indonesia Economic Outlook event, Wednesday.
Jokowi outlined that the daily case number of COVID-19 had fallen to 1,200 so he planned to end PPKM.
