TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo monitored the progress of the construction of 1,800 houses for people who will be relocated after the Cianjur earthquake. Jokowi said that the reconstruction of houses and public buildings is immediately carried out to restore people's mobility, especially in relation to economic activities.
"This is the first relocation site, approximately 200 houses will be built here. There is already a model earthquake-resistant house," said the President in a written statement on Monday, December 5, 2022.
The government also prepared to build 1,600 similar houses in other locations. The relocation is prioritized for quake-affected residents whose homes are located in the quake's epicenter, especially in Cugenang District which is no longer habitable. "It's dangerous," Jokowi added.
Meanwhile, residents whose houses have not been relocated will be given assistance to repair their houses. The amount, Jokowi said, will be adjusted to the damage level.
Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the construction of houses for residents who will be relocated is in accordance with the land provided by the Cianjur Regency Government.
PUPR had commissioned PT Brantas Abipraya to build the houses, which are located in Cilaku in an area of 2.5 hectares. The reconstruction will also be carried out in Mande in a 30-hectare plot of land. At present, PT Brantas Abipraya is working on four out of 200 units of a simple and healthy instant housing dubbed RISHA with earthquake-resistant structures.
The PUPR Ministry’s Director General for Housing Iwan Suprijanto said the construction of RISHA was targeted to be completed by the end of December 2022.
