TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The relocation site for victims of the Cianjur earthquake, West Java, is still in the process of being assessed. However, the local government has proposed a land that can be used as a relocation site.
Budi Rahayu Thoyib, the second assistant to the Cianjur Regency Secretary, said that the alternative location proposed by the regency as a temporary relocation site is in Cilaku District. The area is about 2 hectares, located within the area of the Environmental Agency of Cianjur Regency.
"The area can be a site for several hundred houses as a pilot. Temporary housing," Budi said in Cianjur on Monday, November 28, 2022.
Budi said he received information that the location has been inspected by a team from the BMKG. The results of the temporary study of the location are suitable for use as shelters.
However, Budi said, the victims prioritized to be relocated are those who lives in uninhabitable environments.
"We cannot relocate everyone. In essence, it is still in the process of being studied. But we as the local government want the houses to start being built after the emergency response period is over," Budi said.
If still needed, he continued, the Cianjur Regency Government will try to find more land, including lands that belong to the West Java Provincial Government. "We have informed the Governor of West Java. It's just that it is impossible to find a land that truly matches what the people want," Budi said.
It is not easy to find land for relocation. Moreover, local government land is relatively limited. "There may be a lot of space, but the land must belong to the local government. If there are people who want to donate, please do," Budi said.
