TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Jokowi Widodo granted a bonus totaling Rp309 billion for athletes who seized medals at the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022, which was held in Solo, Central Java. In this international event, Indonesia was declared the overall champion with a total of 425 medals.
“This is a pride for all of us,” said the President in a ceremony to appreciate the athletes at Jakarta State Palace, Monday, November 28, 2022. A number of athletes who have competed in the championship were presented.
At the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, athletes vied in 14 sports with 457 match numbers for 1,260 gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Indonesia managed to bag 175 gold, 144 silver, and 106 bronze medals. “This is a very large number,” said the former Mayor of Solo.
He informed that Youth and Sports Minister Zainuddin Amali would later distribute the bonus. Gold medal winners would receive Rp500 million each.
“It’s not a small amount for a gold medal winner for the achievement you presented to the country,” the state head said.
Jokowi also gave credit to athletes crowned the overall championship. He pinned hopes that the athletes could maintain these achievements in the 12th and 13th ASEAN Para Games.
