TEMPO.CO, Nusa Dua - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the solution to overcome the food, energy, and security threats such as nuclear crises is to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine.
"I want this conflict to end fairly and based on the UN Charter and International Law, and not by any means," said Zelensky who joined the G20 summit virtually, Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Indonesia's focus on the G20 presidency is post-pandemic global economic recovery, with priorities in the health sector, digital transformation and energy transition. However, the current meeting of the G20 members is overshadowed by the global crisis in the food and energy sector, which was triggered by the conflict in Ukraine.
In several ministerial meetings, most Western countries led by the United States strongly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the food and energy crisis.
Zelensky in his speech at the G20 summit, delivered a 10-point solution, from escaping nuclear threats, and food crises, to energy availability. According to Zelensky, the world leader will just have to decide on their direction.
"We will not let Russia wait and build up strength, and unleash another series of global terror and chaos. I believe that Russia's devastating invasion can be stopped now," he said.
Ukraine Issue Becomes Dominant Discussion at G20 Summit
As analysts had predicted, the Ukraine issue became the dominant discussion at the G20 summit. US President Joe Biden previously stated that his party and allies would highlight the impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine at the G20 summit, along with other important issues.
In addition to the United States, Britain, and Canada, the European Union will also condemn Putin's war in Ukraine. Even western leaders will boycott the Russian delegation.
Amid Western pressure to isolate Russia, President Vladimir Putin sent Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the G20 summit.
In his opening speech, President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia had made every effort to unite despite the very deep and wide differences. However, success will only be achieved if all parties can set aside their differences.
Due to differences of opinion regarding Ukraine, the G20 Summit forum is expected to find it difficult to reach a mutual agreement. Nevertheless, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia as the G20 presidency will continue to maintain peace.
