TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has again highlighted world peace at international forums. This time, he voiced the issue at the Global Food Security Forum in Bali ahead of the G20 Summit.
“The world cannot be developed with rivalry and greed,” he said at the forum in Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua on Sunday, November 13, 2022.
The world, he emphasized, must be built on tolerance and cooperation that is mutually respectful and beneficial. Indonesia’s G20 Presidency this year and ASEAN Summit 2023 are thus based on this spirit.
Before the attendees, the President mentioned that the country has thousands of islands, ethnic groups, and local languages. “Indonesia teaches the values of tolerance, peace, and cooperation,” he remarked.
He then recalled his impromptu visits to villages and traditional villages from where he acknowledged that people teach simplicity and vulnerability to challenges. That’s why he claimed he always tried hard to fight for the people, “and voice the interests of low-income countries at various forums.”
Before attending the Bali G20 Summit, the state head took part in ASEAN Summit in Cambodia and took over the chair. He also highlighted regional peace issues in the forum.
During the handover, Jokowi said ASEAN must be stronger as the epicenter of the world’s growth and remain a peaceful region that upholds human values and democracy.
