Religion Can Stop War, Jokowi Says at R20 Forum Bali

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The G20 Religion Forum (R20) is taking place in Nusa Dua, Bali from November 2-3, ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit. In a pre-recorded video, President Joko Widodo gave his opening address that includes a message to that religion can contribute in solving global issues, such as stopping wars to create a peaceful world.
"Religious leaders of various religions must work together to increase the contribution of religions in solving world problems to reduce rivalry and stop wars for the sake of a peaceful world, a united world, and a world that works together to pass on kindness to future generations," Jokowi said.
The R20 forum was initiated by Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) together with the Muslim World League (MWL). In the first ever religious forum summit for the G20, The R20 has five main agendas.
The first is to focus on historical pain, truth-telling, reconciliation, and forgiveness. The second is to identify and embrace noble values originating from the world's great religions and civilizations.
The third is the recontextualization of outdated and problematic religious teachings. Fourth is to identify the values needed to develop and ensure peaceful coexistence. And the fifth focus is spiritual ecology.
The R20 Forum was joined by 338 participants from 32 countries with 45 panelists of interfaith speakers from five continents.
