TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police's Narcotics Investigation Directorate has foiled an attempted shipment of 112 kilograms of marijuana from Mandailing Natal Regency to Jakarta. Three people, one of whom is underage, who acted as the couriers were arrested in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra on Saturday night, October 20. To the police, they claimed to have been paid Rp3 million each to deliver the marijuana.
"The Jakarta Metro Police's Narcotics Investigation Directorate has secured evidence in the form of 112 kilograms of marijuana, ready to be circulated. There are three suspects, RS (19), RD (18), and RP (underage)," Jakarta Police's PR chief Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan on Wednesday, November 2nd.
The couriers said they were paid Rp3 million each to deliver marijuana from Sumatra to Java. By UM, their handler, they were promised a bonus of one-kilogram marijuana if the delivery was a success.
Zulpan said that the police are currently searching for UM, who gave instructions to the drug carriers about when and where to pick up and deliver the marijuana, which is already packed.
In addition to 112 kilograms of dried marijuana, the police confiscated a white Toyota Avanza Veloz used by the suspect to deliver the drug. They are charged with several articles on narcotics and drug crimes, and facing at least six years of prison time or the death penalty.
