Police May Name More Suspects in Kanjuruhan Stadium Disaster

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police have examined 108 witnesses in the Kanjuruhan stadium disaster that killed 135 people and injured hundreds on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
The police’s head of the public relations unit Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday that 93 witnesses are people at the scene, the organizing committee members, PSSI officials, and 11 expert witnesses. The number of witnesses examined increased by 15 on Friday, October 29, 2022.
The two-star general did not deny the possibility of other suspects in the tragedy. “There is a potential for new suspects. We’re waiting for instructions from the prosecutor first,” said Dedi on Sunday.
To date, investigators have named six suspects, namely three civilians and three police officers.
The six suspects are the football league committee LIB president director Ahmad Hadian Lukita, Arema Malang executive committee chairman Abdul Haris, a security officer Suko Sutrisno, Malang Police Chief Wahyu Setyo Pranoto, Malang Samapta Police chief Bambang Sidik Achmadi, and East Java Police Mobile Brigade commander Hasdarman. The police officers face a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
