BMKG: Thunderstorms Expected from 90W Tropical Cyclone

13 October 2022 10:20 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts rainy weather on Thursday which will be accompanied by lightning in a number of areas.

In provincial capitals, rain has the potential to turn into thunderstorms across Bengkulu, Central Jakarta, Jambi, Surabaya, Tarakan, Pangkal Pinang, and Tanjung Pinang.

BMKG estimates heavy rain will occur in Medan while medium-scale rainfall is likely to shower over Serang, Bandung, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Bandar Lampung, Mataram, and Manokwari.

Early warning for other potential hydrometeorological disasters due to potential heavy rains has been issued for five provinces: Lampung, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, and East Java. Hydrometeorological disasters include, among others, floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds, and hurricanes.

BMKG states that there is an influence from tropical cyclone seeds in Indonesia’s vicinity as the 90W tropical cyclone seeds were observed in the South China Sea and 98W tropical cyclone seeds were still observed in the northern Philippine Sea.
