KPK Reveals Challenge in Validating Lukas Enembe's Declining Health

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Monday revealed that the team of doctors tasked to validate the illness suffered by Papua governor Lukas Enembe had difficulties in proving the governor’s actual state of health. The antigraft agency claims Lukas’ medical team struggled to answer questions from KPK’s team of doctors.
“His medical team was not able to provide answers we were looking for,” said KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri on September 26.
This encounter took place as Lukas Enembe’s team of lawyers and doctors arrived at the antigraft agency’s headquarters on Friday, September 23. The governor’s team was initially present there to plead for a postponement of the governor’s interrogation.
KPK medical team mainly questioned the inability of Enembe’s health team that was unable to provide convincing answers in their medical document. “They were unable to elaborate the technical aspect of [the governor’s] health report,” Fikri explained.
Due to this problem, KPK plans to partner with the Indonesian Doctors’ Association (IDI) in future health inspections of the Papua governor. This will determine whether Lukas will be given the permit to seek healthcare overseas, as Enembe has requested.
Lukas Enembe has failed to appear in the two scheduled interrogations by KPK. The governor’s lawyer had always argued that Enembe suffers from a stroke in 2018 and claims to have worsened in the past two months.
