TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - MRT Jakarta experienced an increase in the number of passengers following the announcement of the increase in fuel prices on September 3. Last week, the daily number of passengers peaked at 76,883 people.

"The highest number of passengers was on September 14, 2022, with 76,883 passengers," PT MRT Jakarta's director of operations and maintenance Muhammad Effendi said here on Tuesday, September 20.

The MRT's daily passenger average increased by 3.8 percent after the fuel price hike. Before that, the number of MRT passengers had been on a decline for three consecutive months.

"Prior to the fuel price hike, the number of passengers was 61,014 and after that, it reached 63,339 passengers," Effendi said.

In August, the average number of MRT passengers stood at 59,731 passengers per day. From September 1 to 15, the daily average was 61,978 passengers.

The MRT sees the highest increase in passengers during working weekdays with approximately 8.5 percent—from 67,212 to 72,947 passengers. The number of MRT riders also rises during the weekend, by 4.0 percent to around 44,100 per day.
