TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Wednesday announced the formation of a data protection task force to take the role of protecting data, especially state data from data breaches and hacking attempts.
“The government has created a task force that will help protect and secure data,” said Mahfud in a press conference at his office on September 14.
The formation of the task force had been discussed between state institutions, especially after the series of data breaches by a hacker calling itself ‘Bjorka.’
The two main reasons behind the task force’s establishment, according to Mahfud MD, are the awareness about the Bjorka fiasco reminded officials that Indonesia needs to build a more sturdy cybersecurity infrastructure and the second is that it is mandated under the Personal Data Protection Law, which will soon be passed by Legislators.
