TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commander of the Naval Aviation Center (Danpuspenerbal), Rear Admiral TNI Dwika Tjahja Setiawan, said that the G-36 Bonanza Navy aircraft that crashed into the Madura Strait Sea was in good condition. According to Dwika, the US-manufactured plane, which the Indonesian Navy started using in 2013, had just undergone maintenance.
"It is still relatively feasible because it has just underwent maintenance on August 22, 2022," Dwika said in his statement, Thursday, September 8.
The Navy aircraft crashed at around 09:30 West Indonesia Time in the Surabaya West Shipping Channel (APBS), the Madura Strait, between Bangkalan, Madura and Gresik regencies.
Dwika said that the plane crashed during the ADEX SIAGA Fleet II Exercise with Indonesian navy ships from the Fleet Command II ranks.
The plane was flown by First Lieutenant Marine Pilot (F) Judistira Eka Permady and Marine First Lieutenant Copilot (F) Dendy Kresna Bhakti. So far, the fate of its passengers are unknown. Divers and the search and rescue team are still working to locate them and the plane.
"We will dispatch an investigation team after locating the plane and retrieving it, and then we can determine what caused the crash," Dwika said.
